It all started here…

My renewal in taking up pen and ink drawing again has occurred really because of COVID-19…a situation that has allowed me to try and find a way to de-stress and to navigate the “new” world that it has brought with it. Drawing used to be my way of unwinding when I first started teaching…too many years ago to mention really. In between, I have spent some time dabbling in photography, but I guess my love of drawing was always there….even though I never really spent the time exploring it fully.

I live in the centre of NSW, in Dubbo. During the July school holidays this year, the Taronga Western Plains Zoo, released a story on social media about one of my favourite animals…the meerkats, they were being moved at the zoo, and posted was the most adorable photo of a meerkat family….I was just impelled to draw them. At the time, I was staying in Sydney with some South African friends….whilst they were not fond of meerkats (apparently they can be pests on farms in South Africa, who knew?)…they were happy for me to explore other options of African animals that could possibly adorn their bare walls with original art….and so the “African series” began!! The experience of drawing again has been so calming, and yet so addictive… I haven’t been able to put my pens down yet…I have more than 20 years to catch up. So, stay tuned and see what evolves as I begin a new journey….I hope you enjoy some of the images that arrive….
